Urgam Valley Trek
The Banshi Narayan Temple Trek is one of the most beautiful and spiritually significant treks in Urgam Valley. Located at an altitude of around 3,600 meters (11,800 ft), the ancient temple is surrounded by vast alpine meadows, dense oak and rhododendron forests, and breathtaking Himalayan landscapes. The temple is associated with Lord Vishnu (locally linked with Lord Krishna) and is believed to be more than a thousand years old. Starting from Urgam Valley, the trail passes through traditional Himalayan villages, terraced fields, forests, and high-altitude meadows before reaching the temple. Along the route, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Dronagiri, and other snow-covered Himalayan peaks. The peaceful surroundings and untouched natural beauty make this trek a perfect combination of adventure, spirituality, and nature exploration.One of the unique features of Banshi Narayan Temple is that its doors traditionally open only once a year during the festival of Raksha Bandhan, when devotees from across Uttarakhand visit the shrine.
